With Android Auto, the current word shows on your car's media screen and you can play, pause and skip to the next or previous word. Your position carries over from your phone, so the car picks up with the next word.
There are no ads, no sign-in and no internet permission. Only your chosen level, playback speed and last word position are saved on the device.

Pick a level from N5 to N1 in the course section on the home screen and set the playback speed if you like.

Press play
The app reads the words one at a time. Use the previous and next buttons to move between words.

Keep going in the car
Once connected, open JLPT VocaDrive from Android Auto's media apps and continue from the word you were on.

Is JLPT VocaDrive a paid app?
Yes. It is a one-time purchase on Google Play, and after that every feature is yours with no ads and no in-app purchases.
Does it work offline?
Yes. The app has no internet permission and your device's TTS engine reads the words aloud. If you hear no Japanese voice, install the Japanese voice data for your TTS engine in system settings.
How do I open it in Android Auto?
Connect your phone to the car and choose JLPT VocaDrive from Android Auto's media apps.
Is it on iPhone?
Not yet. JLPT VocaDrive is available for Android and Android Auto only.

Permissions
- Notifications (Android 13+)
- Shows the media notification and playback controls while audio is playing.
No internet permission is requested, and the app does not access your location, contacts, microphone, camera, photos or files.
Your data
- No sign-up or sign-in, and nothing is sent to a developer server.
- Only your chosen level, playback speed and last word position are saved on the device. They are removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data.
- Japanese speech is produced by the Android TTS engine installed on your device.
- No advertising SDKs or analytics tools.
