Seomseom (Nurikabe) Privacy Policy

Effective

This policy explains how Seomseom (the “app” or the “game”), an Android logic puzzle game published by STARRY (“we”, “us”), handles your information. Depending on your language, the game appears on your device and in Google Play as “섬섬”, “Nurikabe” or “島々”. This policy covers all of these.

Seomseom is a Nurikabe puzzle game: you shade cells on a grid to separate islands from the sea. It does not ask for your name or contact details, does not access your photos, camera, microphone, contacts or location, and does not use AI.

In short: the game needs no account and we run no server for it. Your progress and settings are stored on your device. Information leaves your device only through Google services built into the game: Google AdMob for ads, Google Play for purchases, Firebase for game settings and anonymous usage statistics, and Google Play Games if you choose to use leaderboards.

This policy covers Seomseom only. Our other apps are covered by the general STARRY privacy policy at https://starrybits.com/en/privacy

1. Information stored on your device

The game saves the following on your device so it can keep your progress and apply your choices:

  • Game progress: solved puzzles, best times and hints used, and the board, undo history and elapsed time of puzzles you have not finished.
  • Daily puzzles: which daily puzzles you have solved and your daily streak.
  • Hints and ads: free hints remaining, when the game was first opened, and when an ad was last shown, so ads can be kept rare.
  • Purchases: which items you have bought, so they work offline.
  • Settings: sound, music, haptics, graphics quality, theme, language and tutorial progress.

This information is not sent to us.

2. Advertising (Google AdMob)

The game uses Google AdMob and the Google Mobile Ads SDK to show ads. Full-screen ads may appear only after you solve a puzzle, are spaced several minutes apart, and are never shown while you are solving. Rewarded ads play only when you choose to watch one, for example to get more hints. If you buy Remove Ads, full-screen ads are no longer shown. When ads are requested or shown, the following information may be collected and shared automatically:

  • IP address and approximate location derived from it;
  • device identifiers such as the advertising ID and app set ID;
  • interactions with the app and ads, such as app launches, taps and ad views;
  • diagnostic information such as crash logs and performance data.

This information is used to deliver ads, measure ad performance, improve the service and prevent fraud. Depending on your consent and ad settings, it may also be used for personalized ads. The exact data processed can vary with the SDK version, your device and your ad settings.

Where required, for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the game asks for your consent through Google's consent message before any ad is requested. You can review or change your choice at any time with the privacy and ad consent button in the game's settings, and manage your advertising ID in your device's privacy or ads settings.

3. In-app purchases (Google Play)

Optional purchases, such as Remove Ads, scenery themes, puzzle packs and hints, are processed by Google Play Billing. Google handles your payment details under its own terms and privacy policy, and we never receive your card number or billing address.

Google Play tells the game which items your Google account owns and gives us an order ID for each purchase, so the game can unlock the item and restore it on a new device. Google Play may also give us reports with information such as the order ID, date, item, price and country of a purchase, which we use only for accounting, refunds and support.

4. Game settings and usage statistics (Firebase)

The game uses Google Firebase for two purposes:

  • Firebase Remote Config lets us adjust game settings, such as how often ads may appear, without an app update.
  • Firebase Analytics tells us how the game is played, for example which tutorial steps or puzzles players get stuck on, so we can improve the tutorial and adjust puzzle difficulty. It records events such as starting, solving or leaving a puzzle, time taken, hints used and ad views.

Firebase uses an app instance ID that is generated on your device and is not linked to your name or contact details. Depending on your consent and device settings, it may also use the advertising ID. We see these statistics only as aggregated reports, and we do not use them to identify you. Firebase data is retained under Google's policies; analytics data is set to be kept for no longer than 14 months.

5. Leaderboards (Google Play Games)

Leaderboards, such as daily puzzle clear times and daily streaks, are optional and use Google Play Games Services. If you sign in, Google provides the game with your Play Games player ID and gamer display name, and your scores are submitted to the leaderboard, where other players can see them with your gamer name, depending on your Play Games visibility settings.

The game does not request your email address, contacts, Google Drive files or any other Google Account data. It uses this data only to show leaderboards, never shares or sells it, and never uses it for advertising or to develop, improve or train AI or machine learning models. Seomseom's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy (https://developers.google.com/terms/api-services-user-data-policy), including the Limited Use requirements.

Google handles the sign-in itself, and we never receive your Google password. You can delete your Play Games data for the game in the Google Play Games app under Settings → Delete Play Games account & data.

6. Contacting support

If you email us at support@starrybits.com, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use them only to answer you, and delete them when they are no longer needed, unless the law requires us to keep them for longer.

7. Permissions

Internet and network state
Load ads, process purchases, fetch game settings, send usage statistics and use leaderboards. Puzzles themselves are built into the game.
Advertising ID
Used by Google AdMob and Firebase, subject to your consent and device settings.
Vibration
Haptic feedback while you play. You can turn it off in the game's settings.
Billing
Lets Google Play process in-app purchases.

The game does not request access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos or files.

8. Third-party services and international transfers

Google AdMob, Google Play, Google Play Games and Firebase process information under Google's own policies, and that information may be transferred to and processed on servers outside the Republic of Korea, including in the United States. You can read how Google handles this information here:

We do not sell, rent or share your personal information with anyone else.

9. Retention and deletion

  • Progress and settings on your device: clear the app's data in Android Settings → Apps → Seomseom → Storage, or uninstall the game.
  • If Android backup is turned on, your device may back up and restore app data according to your backup settings and Google's policies.
  • Purchases: kept by Google Play with your Google account so you can restore them. Clearing the game's data does not remove them.
  • Ad, Firebase and Play Games data: retained and deleted under Google's policies. We cannot view individual records held by Google.
  • Support emails: deleted once your request is resolved and they are no longer needed, unless the law requires otherwise.

10. Children

Seomseom is a general-audience puzzle game. It is not designed for children under 13 (under 14 in Korea), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, for example by email, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR, the UK GDPR, California privacy law and Korea's Personal Information Protection Act may give you rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal information, and to object to it.

  • Change your ad consent with the privacy and ad consent button in the game's settings, where available in your region.
  • Reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalized ads, in your device settings. Even if you opt out of personalized ads, you may still see ads, and information needed to deliver ads and prevent fraud may still be processed.
  • Sign out of Google Play Games or delete its data in your Google account.

For any other request about your information, email support@starrybits.com. We will review and handle your request as required by applicable law.

12. Security

We limit access to personal information to what is necessary and maintain the app and its components to protect your information. Data stored on your device is protected by Android's app sandbox, and we recommend keeping a screen lock on your device.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the game's features, the external services it uses or the applicable laws change. We will post the update on this page and change the effective date above, and give notice in the game for material changes.
